ITAC Selection Center

ITAC Selection Center

IVCIL IS ONE OF MANY ILLINOIS TELECOMMUNICATIONS ACCESS CORPORATION (ITAC) AMPLIFIED PHONE SELECTION CENTERS IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS.

ITAC's purpose is to provide telecommunications access to people who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, Late-Deafened, Speech-Disabled, or Deaf-Blind. They accomplish this by providing the Illinois Relay Service and issuing equipment that ranges from amplified telephones to Braille phones.

ITAC has been issuing equipment since 1988. ITAC programs are funded by a charge on all local phone lines in Illinois. ITAC is governed by the Illinois Commerce Commision, a Board of Directors, and an Advisory Council that has a member representing each area of the state.

Selection Centers Provide these Services:

  • Demonstration, Testing, and Selection of Amplified Phones
  • Demonstration, Testing, and Selection of the CapTel Phone
  • Demonstration, Testing, and Selection of the TTY

Trained staff will assist individuals in demonstrating, testing, and helping to select this equipment.

Individuals must visit a Selection Center to test the equipment and select one which works best for them.

To Qualify for a Free Amplified Phone, CapTel Phone, or TTY, an Individual:

  • must live in Illinois
  • must have a home phone line
  • must have a permanent hearing loss

What is Needed to Apply?

  • A copy of ID with name and address (Driver’s Liscense, State ID, Medical Card, etc)
  • A copy of the first page on the most recent phone bill
  • The back of the application signed by an Audiologist or Family Doctor
General Information

We have individuals test all 4 amplified phones for volume, tone, and ringer volume.

The phone will be mailed to the individual via UPS, once the application and selection form are received and approved. If problems arise, the individual would contact the phone’s manufacturer.

These phones will need to be plugged in to a phone jack and an electrical outlet to work properly.

Once a phone is received, an individual has 30 days to contact ITAC to exchange the phone for a different selection if the individual is not satisfied with the phone selection.
