IVCIL WHEEL-A-THON
2011:
ON TRACK TO
DISABILITY AWARENESS!

At the Illinois Valley YMCA
9:00 am - 12 pm (Registration starts @8:30 am)
Use
a manual wheelchair to wheel around the indoor track and navigate through an
obstacle course. participate in disability simulations in the areas of
Vision loss, Hearing loss and Cognitive Functioning. There will also be a wheelchair basketball demo.
Raffle tickets are on sale now through May 20th at IVCIL and also the day of the event. This is to raise funds for IVCIL and also to raise awareness of the challenges people with disabilities face on a daily basis through a variety of activities.
Why A Wheel-A-Thon?
The Illinois Valley Center for Independent Living (IVCIL) Wheel-A-Thon supports the efforts of IVCIL. IVCIL's mission is to enlighten persons with disabilities and their families about their rights; to empower persons with disabilities to assume maximum responsibility to realize their potentials; and to enrich the lives of all in Bureau, LaSalle, Marshall, Putnam, and Stark counties by working toward full inclusion of each individual in our communities. Your support allows IVCIL to continue promoting Independent Living in your community…the right of people with disabilities to:
- have the same range of choices as everyone else in housing, transportation, education, and employment;
- participate in the social, economic, and political life of their community;
- unfold their potential.
Why Not Organize a Team?
The Team Challenge promotes friendly competition between businesses and organizations whose employees/members participate on their behalf. Here's how it works.
- Recruit one or more team(s) comprised of up to four participants who work together to raise funds for the Wheel-A-Thon.
- Choose a team name and Team Captain for each team who will serve as a liaison to IVCIL staff and lead your team to success.
Your team will compete against other teams for a “bragging rights” plaque. For more information or to register a team, call 815-224-3126 V/TTY.

You may register online by going to Wheel-A-ThonParticipant Registration Form. You may also mail your completed registration form to IVCIL, 18 Gunia Drive, LaSalle, IL 61301 or call 815-224-3126 V/TTY.
Download the Wheel-A-Thon envelope. Raise sponsors. Ask your family, friends and co-workers…start with yourself! Collect and turn in your registration envelopes with all contributions to IVCIL on or before “Bank Day,” April 20, 2011 to receive a free event t-shirt!
On the day of the event, you will engage in interactive disability awareness activities. Come and understand the challenges presented by various obstacles while experiencing the satisfaction of finding solutions to everyday life. We anticipate and wish for needed changes in prejudices, attitudes, and environments in our communities!
