Training our Personal Assistants

Prior to placement  on the registry, all prospective caregivers receive a Personal Assistant Manual and attend a three and a half-hour orientation.  At the orientation, a number of different aspects of carefiving are discussed, including:

  • Disability Etiquette
  • Independent Living Philosophy
  • Confidentiality
  • Personal Assistant Characteristics: dependability, reliability, trust, and compassion
  • The Employer-Employee Relationship
  • Universal Safety Precautions & Bloodborne Pathogens: to protect themselves and their employer
  • Ergonomics
  • The Home Service Plan, the Division of Rehabilitation Services, & any paperwork involved with pay through this agency  
  • The Job Description, Duties, and Responsibilities of a Personal Assistant
