WHAT IS THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM?

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The Volunteer Program was established in January of 2000. It has since developed into a very interesting and unique part of IVCIL, because it has branched out in two distinct categories.

Category 1: Those volunteers who mainly assist the staff with tasks around the office, such as filing, faxing, copying, stuffing envelopes, etc. These volunteers provide invaluable assistance to our staff, especially during times when we are “in a crunch” trying to meet a deadline or get mailings out by a quickly approaching date.

Category 2: This category of volunteers is comprised of individuals who are consumers of IVCIL. They have expressed an interest in improving and/or sharpening their job skills, or other abilities. They then discuss with the volunteer coordinator the skills they would like to work on, which, in most cases, are similar to those mentioned above. For some volunteers, this may be the first opportunity they have to operate a fax or copy machine. Volunteering also allows them to experience “first-hand” the professional, business-like atmosphere of a service agency.

Both categories of volunteers are greatly appreciated by the staff of IVCIL. Because of them, we are able to stay “on schedule” and assist people with disabilities to the best of our abilities.

If you or someone you know would like to be a volunteer at IVCIL, please call us and ask for Cynthia.
